Hillborough Junior School, judged to be Outstanding by Ofsted, is situated on the southern side of Luton close to Stockwood Park. It is located very close to the town centre of Luton and Shire is based here. This is where lectures take place and indeed some of our trainees will be placed here for their teaching practice phase of their training.
We have our own separate training rooms and offices complete with kitchen and patio area.
Being based at Hillborough has distinct advantages. The atmosphere for our trainees is exactly as they would expect to find in their base or TP school. We have, for training purposes, access to staff expertise and of course, where appropriate, the possibility to work with groups of children to enhance the ‘school experience’ . Trainees will be able to observe outstanding teaching across the curriculum. The staff willingly answer questions and help our trainees with their studies.
The teachers at Hillborough welcome all trainees and the children are used to seeing trainees around the school and working together with them.
About us: Training Facilities At Shire
The school environment, with a large nature area, field and playground also supports our programme of study.
There is a designated car park for our trainees. However we advise them, as it is a school, to arrive either before 8.30 in the morning or after 9.10, to avoid congestion in the road outside. The train station is 20 minutes walk. In fact walking to Hillborough is recommended. There is also a cycle shelter for those who wish to come by alternative transport.
We think you will find your studies at SHIRE to be a rewarding and meaningful experience. Through our carefully structured support and personal development programme, you will find your progress to Qualified Teacher Status to be an enjoyable, professional experience.
The Pioneer Learning Trust is a small MAT currently consisting of Chantry Primary Academy, Southfield Primary School and Whitefield Primary Academy, working in close partnership with other local schools within their proximity. Chantry Primary Academy, the Lead School for our partnership with the Shire Foundation is judged good by Ofsted. Our Trust has a strong focus on continuous professional development and has worked with Initial Teacher Training organisations for many, many years.
